By far the biggest growing part of the orthodontic industry is the proliferation of clear aligners. From well-established companies to in-house 3-D printing, aligners have become an integral part of many dental and orthodontic practices. Not only that, but rising patient demand for quick, effective, and esthetic treatment has led to a boom in both adult orthodontics and aligner therapy. It is important that as clinicians, we understand the basics of aligner therapy so we can better serve our patient’s needs. This course will show the simple, clinical basics of how aligners work, what they do best, and review proper case selection for aligner cases. We will also touch on how best to manage case prescriptions, communicate with the digital lab, and acknowledge when cases are best referred to a specialist.Hands-on components include:
- How to submit cases and prescriptions
- Case Approvals/Modifications
- Interproximal Reduction (IPR)
- Bonding Attachments
- Establish baseline “goals” for orthodontic aligner treatment
- Understand the biomechanics behind how aligners move teeth, particularly in comparison to braces
- Learn the importance of attachments and when/why they are indicated
- List the criteria for “successful” aligner cases
- Learn simple and effective methods of communicating with the digital lab for case submission
